Since it's a part of who I am, I'll get it out of the way: I'm a Zutard, I love the Zutara pairing. Always have, always will, and I'll always prefer Zutara and Taang fan work over Kataang. However, I'm not going to let it affect my love for the world we fans have been given. I have better things to do with my energy than spending hating fictional stuff. So long as nobody makes the fact that Zutara exists inspite of canon, and Kataang isn't crammed in my face, we can get along just fine.
In fact, having anything crammed in your face would make anybody
Tienzin: Awesome guy. Tries so hard to be a Zen guy, but he just can't quite get there. A nice change of pace from the Wise Old Master trope we've always seen. Tienzin feels like a real person. Plus, he's voiced by the guy who played JJ Jamison from Spider-Man, and the voice of Cave Jonson from Portal 2.
I eagerly await for the fanvids that swap out the dialogue. "GET ME PICTURES! PICTURES OF THE AVATAR!" "FIREBEND KORRA! FIREBEND THESE LEMONS!!!!!
Tienzin's Kids: Confession time I'm afraid. At first I wanted to be annoyed by them kids due to being Kataang babies. Or at least I was afraid I'd be due to my shipping prefferences. Fortunatly, I'm not. I love them kids. I think Meelo may be my fav. BE THE LEAF!!
Seriously: HOW THE CRAP DOES HE DO THAT HAND MOTION?! Though given the bit in episode two with Korra's blow up, I worry about her influence on the boy.
The oldest one, Jinora, is another fav. "I will make no such promises."
Ikki however, is the one I'm closest to hating. I'm not too fond of her. In fact, I'm sure lots of fans want to strangle that girl. I know I did.
IKKI! Y U NO SHUT UP WHEN KATARA 'SPLAINS URSA!?
And their mom. Bless her heart. Three energetic airbenders, a fourth on the way... And you can't even shoot fire to cook yourself soothing tea.
Iroh pitties you from beyond the grave.
Also, my TVTropes-fu has taught me that the official ages of Tienzin and his lovely bride are, respectively, 51, and 35
. That means Teinzin was basically legally becoming a man at the same time his future mother-in-law was in labor with his wife
. Huh. Now don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a May December romance. It can be quite sweet. and since he was born the year the War started, Azulon had to come from somewhere
after all. I'm just surprised we're seeing
Bending Revolution: I look forward to a ROFLSTOMP on them. However, Big Bad Amon mentioned a plan involving Korra, so we should expect a nice David Xanatos
In that meeting with that Soapbox guy for the Equalists, Korra actually make a profound point in her blunderous 'you're oppressing yourselves' comment. There's much to be said about the Power of Self Effort. If you don't believe you can't progress in the world because you aren't a part of a certain group, then you won't. It would not surprise me if a lot of folks in minority groups in the ghettos and such, who drop out of school and join gangs, but are
smart and talented, could have been very successful if they just believed that they could.
So you see Soapbox man: It does
Cheif Lin Bei Fong: Another I was worried about my reaction of, being a Taanger as well as a Zutarian. But for all forty seconds we saw her, I like her. And I find her personality: Strict, discaplined, cheif of police
, is the daughter of Toph Bei Fong
: Wrestler, runaway, theif
. Talk about rebellious offspring.
Mako and Bolin: I love guys that are the charmer, such fun watching them interact with their fangirls. I see another Sokka in this new Team Avatar! I want fanout of him getting all the womenfolk. I want an advice-meme Bolin generator. "Lllllllllllladies." "Need women? Turn on your swag!" Seriously, in the trailer, I though I heard Sokka's voice out of Bolin when he realized who Korra was.
As for Mako.... The new Zuko. Serious, a bit gloomy, no nonsense. Also, my shipper-sense tingled. Something about that serendipedous shared gaze between him and Korra. And I've heard internet rumors about Korra snogging the boy in a trailer. If this is true, and Mako and Korra are the new Official couple, then it seems that Mike and Bryan learned their lesson from Last Airbender: MAKE YOUR OFFICIAL COUPLE BLATANTLY OBVIOUS FROM WORD "GO!!" It saves on a lot of grief for you and the fans. Frankly I like a little more spice in the form of cumin bickering pouder in my Ship Salad, but hey, the show's still young, and you can't get it all.
And of course, Korra. My reaction to the girl's introduction went like this:
"Korra!, come here a moment!"
Oh boy! Tiny Korra! Tiny Korra! She's gonna be so cu-
"I'm the Avatar! You gotta deal
with it!" *WATER! EARTH! F-ING FIRE! ...AT AGE F-ING FOUR!!!
Yeah, something like that. Bryke was right, she is
Now for stuff that has changed in the world over the past 70 years.
Cars and Electricity. Huh. I never would've thought that they would go ahead and do that. Sure it's an analogue to the 1920's, but still.
Steampunk. I dunno, we were told fullblown Steampunk for the new show, but I'm seeing desielpunk. We've skiped a Punk level.
That ship Korra stowed away on. Why is it a side-wheel?!
The Fire Nations warships were prop-driven
, why would they go back
a step in technology?!
The War is now the Hundred-Year War. Okay, nice. Saddly the Fanon "Sozin's War" is going by the wayside. But that doesn't mean that it can't still be called that in the Fire Nation. After all, there had to be other wars in history.
Order of the White Lotus. No longer a big ol' secret Illumenati Frat House full of old guys. Now it's an Avatar Secret Service with young guys that works in plain sight. ...Not sure what to think. Kinda loses it's mystique. We'll see. Maybe we'll learn about how Sokka did in the society!
In one of the trailers I saw energy bending. If this goes the way I think, and hope, it does, I'll get to say "I told you so!" about whether or not Aang taking away Ozai's bending was a good/moral thing to do or not.
Seriously, I was never comfortable about reaching in, rooting around, and raping someone else's soul
, no matter how evil. The others should've reacted with horror and disgust. Sokka and Suki I figure wouldn't have because, hey, not a bender. But Toph and Katara? Heck yes. Especially when we remember the latter's reaction when Tai Lee chi blocked her.
Republic City is the capital
of a nation? Forged from the Fire Nation Colonies? Huh. So much for my City State assumption. Stil, a good chance for political shenanigans.
Pro Bending. Why do I see a DBZ-styled Tournament Arc in the near future? Bryke'll forward the plot sure, but still: Tournament. Not that I mind, seeing as from what we've seen it'll avoid the ROFLSTOMP shenanegans from said DBZ tournaments.EDIT:
: Here's a little discussion i had with a friend of mine when I posted what amounts to the above on her DA Page: [link]
Edit- Don't read this if you're under 13
Why do we sleep in church,
but when the ceremony is over we suddenly wake up?
Why is it so hard to talk about God,
but so easy to talk about sex?
Why are we so bored when we look at a Christian magazine,
but find it easy to read Playboy?
Why is it so easy to ignore a Godly myspace message,
Yet we repost the nasty ones?
Why are churches getting smaller,
But bars and clubs are growing?
Think about it, are you going to repost this?
Are you going to ignore it, cause you think you'll get laughed at?
Just remember God is always watching you.
80 % of you wont repost this.
The Lord said:
"If you deny me infront of your friends,
I will deny you in front of my father"
